About the role

About Qualia Communication

Qualia Communication is a Congolese creative agency based in Kinshasa, working across brand strategy, visual identity, institutional communication, editorial design, photography and film.

We collaborate with ambitious brands, institutions and purpose-driven organisations that require communication grounded in strategy, culture and exceptional visual craft.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Motion Designer capable of transforming strategic briefs and creative concepts into compelling moving images.

The selected consultant will contribute to brand films, advertising campaigns, institutional productions, title sequences, digital experiences, social content and event visuals. This role requires more than technical execution: we are looking for a strong visual thinker with a refined understanding of typography, rhythm, composition and storytelling.

The position is designed as a long-term consultancy, with the possibility of working across several projects throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop original motion design concepts from strategic and creative briefs.
  • Create storyboards, moodboards, style frames, animatics and motion systems.
  • Produce title sequences, campaign films, explainers, social content and event visuals.
  • Animate typography, graphic systems, brand identities and visual assets.
  • Translate complex information into clear and engaging visual narratives.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director, designers, filmmakers, photographers, strategists and external production partners.
  • Adapt content across different formats, platforms, languages and screen sizes.
  • Contribute to editing, compositing, visual effects and finishing when required.
  • Maintain consistency with client brand guidelines and Qualia’s creative standards.
  • Present concepts clearly and respond constructively to creative feedback.
  • Organise editable project files, templates, exports and final deliverables.
  • Manage multiple assignments while respecting deadlines and production requirements.
  • Support and guide junior creatives when required.

Required Profile

The ideal candidate combines strong conceptual thinking with excellent technical execution. They should understand how motion contributes to a wider brand or communication system, rather than treating animation as a decorative effect.

We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate:

  • A distinctive and contemporary visual point of view.
  • Strong understanding of animation principles, timing, rhythm and transitions.
  • Excellent command of typography, composition, colour and visual hierarchy.
  • Ability to develop a project from initial concept to final delivery.
  • Sensitivity to African cultures and contemporary international visual standards.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation and file-management discipline.
  • Reliability, discretion and respect for confidential information.
  • Ability to work under pressure without compromising quality.

Technical Skills

Advanced proficiency is expected in:

  • Adobe After Effects
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve
  • Motion typography
  • 2D animation
  • Video editing and compositing
  • Storyboarding and style-frame development
  • Multi-format delivery for web, social media and large screens

Experience with Cinema 4D, Blender, character animation, sound design, Figma or another 3D and collaborative design tool will be considered an advantage.

Candidates may use AI-assisted creative tools responsibly, provided that originality, confidentiality, copyright and professional quality remain protected.

Education and Experience

A degree or equivalent professional training in Motion Design, Graphic Design, Animation, Visual Communication, Film or a related field is preferred.

An exceptional portfolio and substantial professional experience may be considered in place of a formal academic qualification.

Candidates should have at least five years of relevant professional experience in motion design, animation, advertising, branding, audiovisual production or another comparable creative environment.

Agency experience and previous work for major brands, institutions or international organisations will be considered strong advantages.

Languages

  • Professional proficiency in French is required.
  • Working proficiency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of Lingala, Swahili or another language spoken in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is an advantage.

Working Arrangement

This is a hybrid consultancy based in Kinshasa. Some assignments may be completed remotely, while production meetings, filming sessions and collaborative workshops may require an in-person presence.

The consultant must be able to manage deadlines, communicate progress clearly and remain available during agreed production periods.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • An updated CV.
  • A tailored application letter.
  • A portfolio or showreel presenting relevant motion design work.
  • A short explanation of their contribution to selected portfolio projects.
  • Their availability and preferred working arrangement.
  • Links to professional profiles or published work, where applicable.

Applications without a relevant portfolio or showreel may not be considered.

Shortlisted candidates may be invited to an interview and a reasonable, time-limited creative assessment. Qualia Communication will not use unpaid assessment work for commercial purposes.

We are not looking for someone who simply makes graphics move. We are looking for a creative mind capable of making ideas felt, understood and remembered.

Equal Opportunity

Qualia Communication values diversity and is committed to a fair and inclusive recruitment process. Applications are assessed according to professional competence, experience, creativity and suitability for the role.
